Artist Biography
Paul Jackson is a contemporary multi-disciplinary artist based in Bath, UK. Having left university, Paul pursued a career in stonemasonry and sculpture, eventually founding a sculpture and metalwork studio, ‘Gallery 23’, in Camden in 1992. Paul’s work became renowned across London’s design scene, instigating many commissions for private clients, members clubs and restaurants.
Switching chisels for brushes later on his artistic career, he humbly refers to himself as a painter rather than artist. Inspired by childhood memories of his engineer father’s sketches of machinery, Paul enjoys the relationship between structure and line, but in an informal style. “He was always drawing machines on scraps of paper whilst sat on the sofa. I liked the shapes – cogs and straight lines – structure, but free hand. These would later be drawn up properly, but I liked the sketches better than the technical drawings.”
His artistic focus evokes a sense of joy and place through colour. He frequently works with small sketches before applying acrylic paint to canvas in his preferred larger formats. Paul is collected internationally, showing recently in solo exhibitions across the UK. He has also been invited to exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2025.
