About the artist

Rusty is a fine artist born in London and currently living and working in South East London, England. She initially studied at the University of Westminster in Fashion then at Chelsea College of Art practicing Textile Design. Rusty’s textile background informs her textured, expressive painting style which explores the female gaze through gestural, decorative nudes and portraits. Her subject matter is mostly concerned with female representation and examines how women are perceived in imagery. Art history has predominantly featured women from the male perspective, and she feels that for women of her generation, it is important to take ownership of how women are presented. Her work captures the lives of strong female leads, clothed and unclothed, daring and unapologetic. Rusty's nudes jump out with colourful vigour, life and humour.

Rusty has collaborated with galleries across England, advocating for contemporary female artists, and debuted her first solo exhibition in London in 2023 at Protein Studios in Shoreditch. She has worked with renowned brands and institutions, including the likes of Whistles, Richard Anderson, Mildreds, and The Rose.

Additionally, Rusty participated in the exhibition Anything But Ordinary, which raised funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust at Bonhams in Summer 2024.
